History of Helmer Directional Drilling

H.W. "Hank" Helmer's first company "Jet Directional" was started in 1960; However, because of difference in sales and management styles, Hank left to form Helmer Directional Drilling "HDD" in 1965. In the early years Hank was involved in all aspects of a job, from sale to completion, and in 1967 his efforts were rewarded by several commitments for work, and additional personel were hired to support the expanding business. The year 1969 found Hank fully occupied managing sales and operations, and by 1977 the company employed eight full time field engineers.

HDD experienced another period of rapid growth with the "boom" in 1978, and operations now required the support of more than 40 employees to keep pace with the work the company was generating. Helmer routinely managed an average of 30 concurrent jobs though the late 80's when the oilfield went into decline. While not operating at the high level once enjoyed HDD has maintained a strong presence in the oilfield since 1965 by striving to meet customer expectations, and continuing to adapt to the ever-changing industry.
